DELIGHTED TO HAVE for sale this beautiful Antique French Sterling Silver Tea / Coffee Cup & Saucer Set by Edouard Ernie, a skilful Parisian silversmith and specialist for tableware, active 1882 till 1901. The Cup and Saucer are both wholly made of the finest quality French sterling silver, having ornate Rococo style decoration all over.
The Set is finely embellished with Rocaille scallop border with spiral fluted décor. The Cup's main attraction is a large Rococo cartouche with scrolls, flowers, and shell motifs. The technique used to create the pattern is called Repoussé. A sheet of silver is heated and the pattern raised from the reverse side using tools of different shapes. It is done by hand and difficult to master. The casted handle is also decorated with matching scroll design, and the Cup's interior has gorgeous vermeil gilt finish (gold-washed over sterling silver.) The Cup and Saucer have matching hand-engraved monogram "ML", with intricate interlaced letters.
Hallmarked the French Minerva No.1 mark on each piece, which guarantees .950 purity of sterling silver, used in Paris since 1838. This is one of the most high quality silver standard, purer then .925 sterling silver. Maker's mark is that of Edouard Ernie, active 1882-1901 at 7 rue Réaumur, Paris.

Excellent Estate Condition with minor sign of light use. The interior gilt on the cup is slightly faded, but otherwise in quite excellent shape considering its age. Please refer the detail photos I added.
