Delighted to have for sale this very lovely Antique Victorian English Sterling Silver Sugar Serving Bowl with magnificent repousseé (embossed) decoration. What's extraordinary here is that embossed work is done by two sides - tapped from inside to outside, and outside to inside, which makes gorgeous three dimensional decorative effects. The design is in opulent Rococo style rocaille scallop borders and scrolls, along with lovely rabbits and peacocks on meadow background. It stands with casted tripod feet with shell motifs. A very large centralised Rococo cartouche is free from any form of personalisation.

Hallmarked English Essayer Marks of solid sterling silver (.925 purity) of 1899, Chester. Maker's mark of George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, was a skilful silversmith of Chester, then at Birmingham from late 19C to early 20C.
