This is a very handsome Antique French Sterling Silver Napkin Ring, finely crafted by renown Parisian silversmith of 19th century to early 20th century, Boulenger. The goldsmith company was founded in 1810 by M. Boulenger-Hautin under the name of Hautin, then took over by Adolphe Boulenger, nephew of the founder, in 1864 and named A/Boulenger & Cie. Maison Boulenger was the main supplier of silverware of the French National Marine. The firm was specialised in cutlery, tea and coffee service and tableware, and obtained several prized at universal and international fairs over the years.

This lovely Napkin Ring is a simple, modernised shape with boldly raised Rococo style cartouche, accented with scrolling and foliage. It bears hand-engraved initial J.J.

Hallmarked the French Minerva No.1 mark, which guaranteed 950/1000 purity sterling silver used in Paris since 1838. This is one of the highest silver contents, purer than standard 925 sterling silver. Maker's mark of Boulenger with a crescent.
