OFFERED FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION is this very beautiful, handsome and rare Antique French Sterling Silver Grape Scissor by Paul Canaux & Cie, active 1892-1911. The Scissors have most opulent and gorgeous Rococo revival style on the handles, featuring scrolls, rocaille scallop borders and berried foliage. It is nicely housing in an antique presentation box, marked CARDEILHAC, 91 rue de Rivoli, PARIS, beautifully lined with wine red silk and velvet. Perfect working condition.
Hallmarked French Minerva No.1 Titre mark on handle, to guarantee .950 purity sterling silver, used in Paris since 1838. This is one of the highest quality sterling silver in the world, purer than standard .925 sterling silver. Maker's mark of Paul Canaux & Cie. Paul Canaux, a manufacturing Jeweller-Silversmith, registered his first maker's mark on 1888 at 30 rue des Francs-Bourgeois in Paris, then struck off on 1892. Paul Canaux & Cie registered their maker's mark on 1892 at 30 Boulevard Malesherbes, then at 127 rue de Turenne around 1899, and struck off on 1911. CANAUX was a manufacturer of silverware and table cutlery; tea sets, centrepieces, serving dishes, as well as producing pieces to special order.
