This is a very lovely Antique French Sterling Silver Carving Fork, finely crafted by renown Parisian silversmith Alphonse Debain, active 1883 till 1911. This Serving Piece has most elegant Neo Classical style with Louis XVI era influence, raised acanthus leaves, berried laurel and gadroon on top and finial. The surface of the handle has extremely delicate Guilloche engine-turned engraving textured background with a large oval cartouche, with intricate interlaced monogram MR. The top part is silver plated, having very sharp and long shaft and prongs, with a traditional, retractable knife-safety guard, which gorgeously adorned with peacock figurine on the top.

Hallmarked on the handle 1.) French Minerva No.1 mark, which guaranteed .950 purity sterling silver, used in Paris since 1838. This is one of the finest quality sterling silver, higher than standard .925 sterling silver. 2.) Maker's mark of Alphonse Debain, 79 rue du Temple, Paris, active 1883-1911.
