A VERY BEAUTIFUL and large Antique English Sterling Silver Fruits Bowl by William Moering, 1892-1903 London.
This gorgeous Fruits Bowl is wholly made of solid sterling silver. It is boldly embellished with embossed fruits and pearlé borders on textured background - very nicely done in marvellous detail. The technique used to create the pattern is called Repoussé. A sheet of silver is heated and the pattern raised from the reverse side, using tools of different shapes. It is done by hand and difficult to master. Two casted side handles, nicely decorated with figural bust of a woman. You will appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this piece.
The inscription on the back can read: "Presented to Mr & Mrs G.H. Brougham Glasier, on the occasion of their Silver Wedding, by Lord Zouche, July 20. 1896."
Both graceful and artistic, this Antique English Sterling Silver Fruits Bowl is great for use but also a fabulous piece for display - it would make a stunning addition to your interior. Excellent condition.
