This is a very beautiful Antique French Sterling Silver Nutcracker, finely crafted by renown Parisian master silversmith Ravinet d'Enfert, active 1891-1912. The handles are made of the finest quality French sterling silver .950 purity. The design is most elegant and opulent Louis XVI style, embellished with berried laurel, acanthus, and interlaced ribbon borders. Large oval-shaped cartouches on the lower part, one of which bears hand-engraved monogram, probably LC.
Hallmarked French Minerva No.1 Titre mark on the handles, to guarantee .950 purity sterling silver. This is one of the highest quality sterling silver in the world, purer than standard .925 sterling silver. Maker's mark of Ravinet & D'Enfert, founded by Louis Ravinet and Charles D'Enfert, at 83 rue de Temple in Paris, active between 1891-1912.
