A VERY BEAUTIFUL and large Antique French Sterling Silver Sauce Boat by Maison Queillé, a very important manufacturer of silverware and fantasy work from the beginning of XIX century, in Paris.
This beautiful Sauce Boat is wholly made of the finest quality solid Sterling Silver .950 purity, consists of tall, flared-shape sauce boat with attached under plate. The decoration is in gorgeous Rococo revival, finely embellished with embossed Rocaille scallop borders and raised contoured rim. It bears elegant hand-engraved monogram with interlaced letters LC. The under plate is securely attached to the pedestal base of the sauce boat (removable, for cleaning purpose.)
This Antique French Sterling Silver Sauce Boat is great for use but also a fabulous piece for display - it would make a stunning addition to your interior. Excellent condition.
Hallmarked 1. French Minerva No.1 mark on each pieces, which guaranteed .950 purity sterling silver, used in Paris since 1838. This is one of the finest quality sterling silver, higher than standard .925 sterling silver. Maker's mark of Maison Queillé, established 1834 by Pierre-François Queillé at 70 rue du Faubourg-Montmartre, them moved to larger workshop at 11 rue des Petits-Carreaux. They manufactured silverware and fantasy silver, flatware and accessories, and fine silver cutlery using ivory, mother of pearl and ebony. They often produced high quality silver flatware for most prestigious silversmiths in Paris, namely the Maison Odiot and the Maison Froment-Meurice.
